Dr. Doug Andersen started his practice in the city of Brea in 1986. He
was a magna cum laude graduate from Pasadena College of Chiropractic,
receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology and Doctor of
Chiropractic. Dr. Andersen also holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business
from California State University, Fullerton. Dr. Andersen is a sports
chiropractic specialist. He holds two postgraduate board certifications
from the American Chiropractic Association. He is a Certified Chiropractic
Sports Practitioner (one-year postgraduate course with boards) and a Diplomat
of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians (three year postgraduate
course with boards). He is also a member of the postgraduate faculty of
Southern California University of Health Sciences. Dr. Andersen is also
a Certified Clinical Nutritionist. Since 1990, he has authored a monthly
column on clinical and sports nutrition for chiropractors around the world
in the most widely read publication in his profession, Dynamic Chiropractic.
Dr. Andersen has also written articles for various magazines including
Muscle & Fitness, Volleyball, Volleyball Monthly, Surfing, The American
Chiropractor, and Today’s Chiropractic, on sports nutrition, clinical
nutrition, and sports injuries. Dr. Andersen has published papers and
abstracts on sports injuries and sports nutrition in professional journals,
including Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, Journal of Sports
Chiropractic and Rehabilitation and the Natural Medicine Journal. For
two years in a row, (1996 & 1997) he won a national award for best
peer review abstract at the Annual Sports Chiropractic Symposium. In 1998,
he was appointed to the editorial board of the Natural Medicine Journal.
He wrote a chapter in the 3rd edition of The Principles and Practice of
Chiropractic edited by Scott Haldeman, DC, PhD, MD and the just published
Strength Conditioning and Injury Rehabilitation for Hockey by Joseph Horrigan,
DC. Dr. Andersen’s expertise in sports chiropractic is sought after
by many professional sports organizations. Dr. Andersen was employed by
the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) from 1990 to 1999. In
1992 he was promoted to Director of Sports Medicine, a position he held
for the rest of pro beach volleyball’s finest decade, which saw
the tour reach heights of popularity never duplicated before or since.
The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) also employed Dr. Andersen
from 1995 to 1999. He treated the world’s best surfers on four continents.
Dr. Andersen’s knowledge regarding sports nutrition has spread to
major professional sports. In October of 1998, Dr. Andersen was invited
to Green Bay, Wisconsin to consult with the Green Bay Packers strength
and conditioning coach for a consultation. Dr. Andersen designed a hydration
program in which solved the cramping issues that the team had experienced
during their first six games. From 1999 to 2003, Dr. Andersen was the
team Nutritionist for the Los Angeles Kings. For the first time in franchise
history, they made the playoffs 3 seasons in a row. The American Chiropractic
Board of Sports Physicians named Dr. Andersen the 2003 Sports Chiropractor
of the Year. In December 2003, Dr. Andersen was invited to join The USA
Triathlon Medical Team for the World Championships in New Zealand. He
also provided care for Team USA at the World Triathlon Championships in
2004 (Sweden) and 2005 (Denmark), 2006 (Australia). From January to April,
2008, Dr. Andersen taught clinical nutrition at Southern California University
of Health Sciences. In May 2008, Dr. Andersen joined DISC Medical Group
